Parish Life

Dear Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parishioners,

It has been said that the only constant in our lives is change, and that certainly is true for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and School!

Fr. Tom Moser, as I have mentioned recently, will be joining us as Associate Pastor. Fr. Tom has been a pastor and associate at a number of parishes around the Diocese and I look forward to our working together, and sharing the Mass schedule with him!

Ralph Christiana, Business Manager at our parish for 20 years, has decided to hang up his budgets, income statements, expense reports and calculator and follow his wife Marian into retirement. I was concerned about replacing Ralph, but am happy to report that Robert Jones, a parishioner, school parent, and for the past six years Director of Alumni and Development at Notre Dame High School, will take over as our business manager August 1.

Patti Morrison has retired as a religion teacher in the school but she will now be responsible for the Parish School of Religion (PSR) program that provides religious education for parishioner children who are not in our parish school. She will be taking over for Katie Bird who guided the program over the past year. Mary Pat Haywood will continue to be responsible for the Right of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process for prospective converts to our Catholic faith.

Most of you are aware that Leslie Fox, longtime teacher and over the last few years school principal, has retired. I wanted to remind you that taking her place is Paul Jette, who has extensive experience as a teacher and administrator in a number of school systems around the country. I look forward to working with Paul as we prepare for the new school year.

Finally, there will be any number of projects in and around the school buildings this summer, including painting, repairs, lighting upgrades, plantings and cleaning. The biggest project by far will be the repair and paving of the back entrance/exit from Moore Road all the way to the field. This is an area that sees significant traffic including delivery and trash trucks and has been beaten to a pulp. The new surface will be as strong as we can make it, with a 12-inch packed base supporting the final asphalt surface.

I pray that you all have a safe and relaxing summer. And remember, we are open for Mass every day of the week during the summer and multiple times on the weekends! I hope to see your smiling faces during the warm summer months.

    In Christ, FR. JIM
